Elevators from Past to Present

Elevators from Past to Present

Archimedes created the first principles of the elevator in 282 BC. In the 16th century, around 1000, elevator systems were used to carry stone blocks in the construction of the Egyptian pyramids. Pascal conducted the first hydraulic system research. Then, in 1738, Bernoulli and Evangelista Torricelli carried out the first studies of the elevators we use today. They started from the energy possessed by examining the flow and movement of water. Simple elevator constructions were seen in Roman times. The first lever machine; Archimedes lifted the giant lever he made into the air and split the bow of the Roman army's ship in two. The lever's arms and the mechanism with giant pulleys explain the lifting power and principle of the elevator. In the 18th century, steam-powered elevators were used in mines and factories. Hydraulic elevators began to be used in the 1870s.

In 1880, German physicist Werner van Siemens began experiments with electric elevators. The 1900s were the years when elevators directly connected to electric motors were seen in high-rise buildings.

1903 was the year when gearless electric motors were developed. As elevators continued to develop in the world, we see the first elevator at the Pera Palas Hotel. Its design has a neo-classical appearance covered with decorative ornaments.

After 1985, electric motor-powered elevators began to be used in Izmir. And with the buildings gradually rising in Turkey, elevators also became widespread.
Elevators are structured legally in the world according to standards determined by laws. Freight elevators used in buildings, stage elevators, disabled elevators, vehicles, etc. are used in many areas, and innovations are made in their designs as technology develops in the world. While hydraulic elevators work with liquid pressure, electric ones work with electric power. These elevators, which are quite widely used in terms of size and power, can go to the highest floors.

The design of the elevators that people ride is much more careful and meticulous. Comfort, speed, decoration, capacity are calculated down to the smallest detail.

Freight elevators are entirely for the purpose of carrying loads and are used in factories, shopping malls, and warehouses.

Panoramic elevators designed with unbreakable glass to watch the outside view are preferred in hotel buildings, shopping malls, and holiday villages.
