Freight elevator falls in Bahçeşehir: 3 workers die
In ESENYURT, the freight elevator of a 32-story residential construction site crashed to the ground from the 23rd floor for an unknown reason. The 3 workers in the elevator lost their lives at the scene. 4 people were taken into custody in connection with the incident.
The elevator disaster occurred at around 12:30 at the 32-story residential construction site on Esenyurt’s Hadımköy Hoşdere road.
According to the allegations, Yasin Bakır (19), Şükrü Yaşar (21) and Osman Yardımcı (17), who arrived from Ağrı 3 months ago, started working at the construction site. The 3 workers who got on the freight elevator went up to the 23rd floor of the 32-story construction site.
At this time, the elevator crashed to the ground for an unknown reason. Other workers who saw the accident reported the situation to the police, fire department and health teams. Many health teams were dispatched to the scene. The health teams who arrived determined that the 3 workers had died during their checks. The police teams took extensive security measures around the construction site. After approximately 3 hours of work by the crime scene investigation police, the bodies of Yasin Bakır, Şükrü Yaşar and Osman Yardımcı were taken to the Forensic Medicine Institute. It was learned that the workers, who were tile masters, were related to each other. The police launched a multi-faceted investigation into the incident.
‘WE ARE VERY SORRY’
Providing information about the incident, Fi Yapı Board of Directors Chairman Fikret İnan said: “The final result will emerge after the investigation. However, according to the photos taken by our friends, the elevator was overloaded with cement. It has been 2-3 months since we did the maintenance of the freight elevator. There was a major elevator accident at a construction site last year and we increased inspections and maintenance after that incident. We are very saddened by the loss of life.” Stating that more than 10 subcontractor companies were working on the Fi Side housing project, İnan stated that they were preparing to deliver the buildings, the rough construction of which was completed, in June. The bankruptcy postponement case of the company, which has thousands of apartments waiting to be delivered, is ongoing. Gülistan ALAGÖZ
CHP MP AT THE SCENE
CHP İstanbul MP and Work Accidents Investigation Commission member Sibel Özdemir came to the scene and made a statement. Özdemir, who gave the names of the deceased workers, said, “Unfortunately, three of our brothers lost their lives due to the work accident that occurred here, as a result of working without security. As the CHP Work Accidents Investigation Commission, we immediately came to the scene. We are trying to obtain the necessary information. I think we are faced with such a painful event as a result of the construction being idle for a while and the resulting problems with materials; and the use of elevators that carry people even though they do not carry loads.”
“THERE IS NEGLIGENCE”
Adem Bakır, the older brother of the deceased worker Yasin Bakır, who worked at the same construction site, said, “The elevator was not maintained, it was not controlled. The elevator above is also broken. It is stuck above. It is suspended. The elevator has fallen several times before. None of the elevators even have oil. I warned them many times. I went to the construction site. I went to security. They want us to do the job on time. If we do not do the job on time, we cannot get our money.”
4 PEOPLE IN CUSTODY
While the public prosecutor and police teams were investigating the scene, 4 people, including the construction site manager and the occupational safety specialist of the building where the accident occurred, were detained.
